Chomp Eats Up Some Seed Funding. Next, Will Bite Into The Mobile Space.

It’s not yet clear what Chomp exactly is, but we do know that it’s a rather hot property right now. It took the still stealth start up just 10 days to raise a nice seed round from Ron Conway and a few other big name angel investors, we hear.

CNN.com Launches News Trivia Quiz

CNN.com said Thursday it is introducing a new interactive online news trivia quiz called the CNN Challenge.
CNN Challenge will focus on both historical news events and the top stories of the week. New quizzes about historical events will be available every Tuesday and Wednesday, and a new current news quiz will be available every Thursday.

NASA grant to create Mars weather forecasts

Is there such a thing as “weather” on Mars? There are some doubts, considering the planet’s atmosphere is only 1 percent as dense as that of the Earth. Mars, however, definitely has clouds, drastically low temperatures and out-of-this-world dust storms, and Istvan Szunyogh, a Texas A&M professor of atmospheric sciences, has been awarded a NASA grant to analyze and forecast Martian weather.

Porsche has announced a new version of the Boxster Roadster that will make it’s debut at the 2009 LA Auto Show next month. Here’s what you need to know:

At 2,811 lb, the Boxster Roadster is the lightest model in the entire Porsche lineup.
Power fom the 3.4-liter direct injection six-cylinder is up 10hp to 32ohp.
Available in February 2010, tops the Boxster model lineup.

DocuPen X-Series Ups the Pen Scanner Game [jkOnTheRun]

The folks at Planon have been making pen scanners for a few years, and the newly announced X-series scanners are looking pretty solid. There are three models in the X-series line, all of them packing these features:

64MB Fast memory
Bluetooth Connectivity
OLED Screen
Lithium-Polymer battery

Eston MID-05 MID and N97 UMPC arrive

It’s all go at Eston’s render labs this week, with two new tablets in the offing. The company has sliced off the hardware keyboard from their MID-02 and produced the touchscreen-only MID-05, a 5-inch handheld running either Android or Windows CE. If your fingers are too chubby for that, Eston also have the N97 MID, with a larger 7-inch touchscreen and integrated 3G.

The Eston MID-05 lacks 3G, but has WiFi b/g, an SDHC card slot and a 624MHz Marvell PXA303 processor. There’sSource: SlashGear RSS Feed

There’s an interesting article in the current New York Review of books (predictably, a book review) detailing the history of the National Security Agency, that shadowy power-behind-the-power to which we surrender much of our privacy. That in itself is interesting, but I found the introduction a bit shocking: the NSA is constructing a datacenter in the Utah desert that they project will be storing yottabytes of surveillance data. And what is a yottabyte? I’m glad you asked.

An Update on Google Wave Federation
